It may take time, but COVID-19 will eventually be contained, and life will go back to some level of normalcy. Once that happens the global markets and economies will stabilize and come back to some level of consistency. But, even when things come back, the experience of having lived through this challenging period will leave many individuals with a reinforced and reinvented understanding of what matters most.

Considered from a post-crisis perspective, where in the world will offer the best options for repositioning yourself?

Recent events have been an eye-opener to many, whether it be the virus or the vulnerability of the economy. It is now more important than ever to diversify your lifestyle and investment portfolio, there is a need to embrace the many opportunities our world continues to offer. The way to make sure you’re prepared for whatever tomorrow brings is to expand where you spend your time and your money so you’re not at the mercy of any single government, economy, marketplace, or currency.

Imagine living in a place where you aren’t compelled to turn on the news or fall victim to the bombardment of daily media the minute you roll out of bed because you have better things to do. You are living and investing in a place that facilitates a better lifestyle and provides a level of sustainability that allows you to ride out any storm safely and comfortably.

While people around the globe sit in a collective pause, it provides the time needed to regroup, evaluate, and begin to think about where in the world supports the best possible lifestyle while also being a positive investment.

Ambergris Caye provides investors affordable investment opportunity real estate with little carrying costs and low taxes. This combined with the fact Belize has no active cases, the market is poised to be the benefactor once the travel restrictions are lifted.

That being said, I can speak from first-hand experience as I have spent the duration of the coronavirus pandemic on the island of Ambergris Caye, and I could not feel any luckier. The country of Belize managed everything diligently which led to a speedy recovery. Through the duration of quarantine, more and more people are looking at Belize as an alternative for investment and retirement. Ambergris Caye has not only been safe, but it has also provided a home and lifestyle that few destinations can compare.

You may not be able to hop on a plane at this moment to explore Ambergris Caye, but the island is poised to be one of the top emerging markets once this pandemic is over.

WHY AMBERGRIS CAYE?

When compared to other destinations, Ambergris Caye remains relatively off the world’s radar. Nobody is targeting or intent on stirring up trouble in this little Caribbean destination. Most people don’t give Belize, not to mention Ambergris Caye a second thought. In today’s world, that’s a plus.

The country is one of the most important members of the Caribbean Community, thanks to its arable land and agricultural capacity. It helps provide food security for CARICOM, an international community of primarily small English-speaking island nations.

Belize has the world’s largest living reef, pristine beaches, a diverse economy, forward-thinking environmental policies, and a small population with low density. In addition to this, Belize has vast agriculture allowing the country to be food secure. All-in-all Belize is a great vacation destination and an ideal place to live.

Buy land, they aren’t making any more of it.” – Mark Twain

Belize’s agriculture sector is driven by the industriousness of the Mennonite community. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that the average American meal travels 1,500 miles from farm to market. On Ambergris Caye, your food could be sourced within 10 miles. That being said, imported foods are available if you want them, but it’s possible to be food secure and not dependent upon an elaborate, vulnerable, and costly global supply chain.

Here are seven more reasons Ambergris Caye, Belize, is an ideal option for a self-sufficient, resilient, sustainable, neighborly, and fun life…

  1. Reliable Water Sources: The vast majority of the water supply on Ambergris Caye is provided by a reverse osmosis plant which provides over 470,000 gallons per day. The island’s electricity/power is brought to the island by a subsea electric cable. That being said, a large number of homes and businesses are completely self-sustaining operating on solar power and generators. For water, a lot of these off-grid properties catch, store, and filter rainwater, and groundwater. The island is also one of the top fishing destinations in the world, providing an abundance of food options.
  2. Energy Independence: Living off-grid with solar and rain-catchment doesn’t have to mean giving up the amenities of the modern world. On Ambergris Caye, you can live a fully self-sufficient life that includes high-speed internet, modern appliances, and all other comforts of the 21st century as many properties are fully serviced with all utilities. Another key advantage of the island is the fiber-optic network and LTE towers.
  3. Low Population Density: During a disruption in the supply chain, as we are seeing now, it’s good to be a safe distance from big, dense cities. Belize has a population density of just 37 people per square mile. The small population makes it easy to become part of the community, as locals and permanent residents are very welcoming and embrace newcomers and travelers alike.
  4. English Speaking: As a former English colony (and still a part of the English Commonwealth), Belize is the only officially English-speaking country in Central America. One of the biggest challenges you can face when making a move to a new country is communicating with your new neighbors. Anywhere you might think about moving, including Belize, you’ll have to learn to overcome and adapt to cultural differences. A language difference makes that and everything else, from giving directions to a taxi driver and filling a prescription at the pharmacy to getting your broken hot water heater fixed and negotiating for the purchase of a new home, more difficult. In Belize, you don’t have to worry about learning a new language if you don’t want to.
  5. Great Weather: The country is blessed with abundant year-round sunshine. The rainy season extends from August to early November, but, even during those months, skies are sunny more than they’re not. The reliable sunshine makes for happy, healthy living and also a great overall environment.
  6. Safety:The island of Ambergris Caye is very safe. I have personally walked around at night and have never once had any issues. The community is very welcoming and embraces travelers and foreign investors.
  7. Lifestyle:This is a lifestyle paradise with no shortage of activities to enjoy. From diving the Belize barrier reef to spending a day at the beach there is an abundance of things to do. The pace of the island can be seen as soon as you visit and witness all the golf carts, the primary form of transportation on the island.

There are many other reasons Belize and the island of Ambergris Caye are poised to thrive in the coming years.

Belize has been very fortunate through the pandemic, as neighboring countries like Guatemala and Mexico continue to report new cases. Looking to the future, Belize is set to rebound strongly once travel is allowed, ultimately leading to further growth and opportunities for investors.

Let me know if you are interested in investment or retirement opportunities in Belize and Ambergris Caye. Right now, is a better time than ever to look at the market, prepare for the future, and diversify your investment portfolio.

Now, one thing I tell everyone is learn about real estate. Repeat after me: real estate provides the highest returns, the greatest values and the least risk.
